Villa College champions environmental innovation at World Ozone Day 2025
2 min read

Villa College participated in the World Ozone Day 2025 celebrations held at Hulhumalé Central Park on September 19th. The event was organized by the National Ozone Unit of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment under the theme "From Science to Global Action" and coordinated by Villa College's Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

Students showcased six innovative projects focused on renewable energy, sustainable resource management, and marine protection. The Mechanical Wave Energy Converter harnesses ocean wave power to generate clean electricity. The Smart Water Quality Monitoring System provides real-time monitoring capabilities for marine ecosystem protection.

The Autonomous Beach Cleaning Robot offers an automated solution for coastal pollution management. The Multimodal Drone demonstrates versatile applications for environmental monitoring and data collection. The IoT-enabled Solar Fish Drying Chamber combines traditional practices with modern solar technology, while solar-powered home solutions showcase practical renewable energy applications for residential use.

These projects directly contribute to multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. SDG 7 is addressed through renewable energy initiatives including wave energy conversion and solar-powered solutions. SDG 12 focuses on responsible consumption and production through sustainable resource management approaches demonstrated in the fish drying chamber project.

Climate action under SDG 13 forms the foundation of all presented projects through renewable energy adoption and sustainable technology implementation. SDG 14, which emphasizes marine conservation, is supported through the beach cleaning robot and water quality monitoring systems that protect ocean resources.

Villa College's successful participation represents the collective effort of students, faculty, and the broader college community. The institution extends gratitude to all contributors who made this showcase possible, proving that collaborative efforts drive meaningful change.

The participation in World Ozone Day 2025 reinforces Villa College's dedication to transforming scientific knowledge into actionable solutions for environmental challenges and sustainable development.
